In our article 7 video games created by one person that earned a million dollars we wrote that Balatro had already earned $8 million in July 2024. However, this year, the game was released on mobile devices, where it also earned a substantial sum.

Here's What We Know

Balatro, which was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, has earned almost $4.4 million on mobile devices alone since its release in September.

The game sells for £10 on iOS and Android, and Balatro is also included in the Apple Arcade catalogue, so many people play the game through an Apple subscription, but it is unclear how much money this has brought the author.

Balatro is a poker roguelike game where players aim to win a series of 8 antes (a form of mandatory betting in poker that players must pay before they even see their cards) by collecting enough chips through poker hands. Players use their cards to make various poker combinations. Between rounds, you can upgrade your deck by purchasing items from the shop. In addition to the standard cards, there are also Tarot cards that can enhance regular cards; planet cards that will help to increase the level of poker combinations and voucher cards that will give permanent boosts to the current game.
