The head of independent games at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Shuhei Yoshida, has announced his departure from PlayStation.
Here's What We Know
Shuhei Yoshida spent 31 years in various roles at PlayStation and is largely responsible for making the brand so successful. He joined the team of Ken Kutaragi, who is called the "father of PlayStation" in February 1993 and since then has influenced many processes in the company. Yoshida spent many years as head of independent games at Sony and was personally involved with talented developers, leading them to success.
Shuhei Yoshida will remain in his position until 15 January 2025, after which he will "move on":
"It was my 30th year on the job, and I thought, 'Hmm, maybe it's time for me to move on.' You know, the company's doing well. I love the PS5, I love the games that come out on that platform. And we have new generations of executives that I respect and admire. And I look forward to the future of PlayStation. It is in good hands.
Xbox CEO Phil Spencer reacted to Yeshida's departure from PlayStation and thanked him for his tremendous contributions to the industry:
Congrats on an amazing career at PlayStation. You've always been a great advocate for the industry, for creators and for players. I've appreciated the time we've been able to spend talking gaming. Thank You @yosp.
