Genaral Motors has dropped Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its cars in 2023, explaining that it wants to create a "more deeply integrated" platform. However, not all users were happy about this innovation. So third-party company White Automotive and Media Services (WAMS) has come up with its own solution to the problem - a kit that brings back popular smartphone display features to Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles.
Here's What We Know
On its website, WAMS promises full integration of wired and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto without sacrificing existing features. The kit supports Chevrolet Equinox, Blazer, and Silverado EV models, as well as the GMC Sierra EV and Cadillac Lyriq 2025.
The demo video shows the familiar Apple CarPlay interface on the centre display. The integration looks almost factory-like: even Siri and Google Assistant voice assistants are supported, as well as Apple Maps navigation with dashboard and Head-Up Display output.
WAMS hasn't yet revealed exactly how the kit works, nor has it announced a price yet. It's also not clear if this addition will affect the factory warranty or if it will lock the car out of OTA software updates. Finally, WAMS says the kit is currently only available for installation at one LaFontaine Chevrolet dealership in Plymouth, Michigan.
