Geoff Keighley, the organiser and host of the prestigious The Game Awards, recently hosted a broadcast where Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong and Metapahor: ReFantazio are up for Game of the Year - The Game Awards 2024 nominees announced, including Game of the Year. Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Metapahor: ReFantazio, and even the Shadow of the Erdtree add-on for Elden Ring have all been nominated for the award, causing a huge wave of mixed comments.

Almost two weeks have passed since the nominees were announced and GamesIndustry.biz editor-in-chief Christopher Dring noticed a surprising fact.

Here's What We Know

Christopher Dring noticed that after the nominees were announced, the sales of games from the Game of the Year and some other nominations increased significantly.

The journalist cites the following figures:

  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - 268%;
  • Astro Bot - 61%;
  • Elden Ring - 38%;
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio - 172%;
  • Silent Hill 2 Remake - 43%.

For the sake of objectivity, it should be noted that now almost all digital shops and retail chains are running a Black Friday promotion, and the Christmas holidays are ahead. During this period, the rate of sales of games and consoles always increases, and it is probably this factor that influenced the statistics more.

Recall that the next - anniversary - The Game Awards 2024 ceremony will be held on 12 December. The audience is expected not only the announcement of the winners, but also a lot of unexpected announcements, bright trailers and performances of the stars of the game industry, cinema and other media.

The Game Awards organisers have released a touching video about the highlights of previous shows.
