The fifth-generation Toyota GR Supra (A90) is nearing its finish line: a farewell A90 Final Edition has already been announced. However, Toyota has confirmed that a successor is already in development, and rumours point to interesting changes under the bonnet.

Here's What We Know

According to Japanese publication Best Car, the new Supra may get a fully "Toyota" powertrain, without a single part from BMW. Most likely, it will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, announced in May 2024. It is expected that in the top version, the maximum output of this unit could reach 406 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Hybridisation is capable of pushing these parameters even higher, even surpassing the 435 hp. of the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine in the A90 Final Edition.

Toyota's new internal combustion engine is initially being designed with the ability to integrate hybrid systems and use not only conventional petrol, but also carbon-neutral fuels. According to the latest rumours, the next-generation Supra will get an 8- or 10-speed automatic transmission.

When We Can Expect It

Best Car reports that the sixth-generation Toyota GR Supra is expected in 2027. However, given the end of production of the A90 in 2025, the presentation of the novelty could take place as early as 2026.
