Škoda produces the millionth battery for Volkswagen Group cars in the Czech Republic
Škoda Auto has reached a significant milestone - the millionth battery has been assembled at its main plant in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. The company has been producing high-voltage battery systems since 2019, starting with batteries for the Superb iV hybrid model. The manufacturer is now focusing on making large batteries for all-electric vehicles on the MEB platform. It produces 1,500 batteries daily on two assembly lines.
Here's What We Know
The plant in Mladá Boleslav started producing battery systems for all-electric cars on the MEB platform in May 2022. These batteries are installed in the Škoda Enyaq and Elroq, as well as Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Cupra models. The lithium-ion batteries have a modular design, which enables the production of a wide range of high-voltage batteries. They consist of 8 to 13 modules with 16 to 26 cells, providing a nominal capacity of 55 to 91 kWh (available capacity: 52 to 86 kWh). In 2023, the company expanded production with a second line, increasing the workshop area to 10,500 m². The assembly of one battery, weighing up to 490kg, is completed every minute.

Quality Control
In June, Škoda opened a unique laboratory for battery quality control using computed tomography. This technology makes it possible to detect the smallest defects of up to 4 microns without disassembling the system. Batteries that have already been in service are also analysed.
90 workers per shift are involved in the work on the batteries, while heavy components are handled by 82 automated robots.
