Google Photos has begun rolling out a new feature that allows you to cancel the backup of photos and videos from your device.

Here's What We Know

This option allows you to delete all photos and videos currently stored in Google Photos without deleting them from the device itself.

The key is that when you cancel the backup, the photos will not be deleted from your device, but they will also disappear from albums, shared albums, search results, and memories. In addition, photos and videos stored in the Locked folder will also be deleted.

How To Switch It On

To activate this option:

  • Open the Google Photos app.
  • Tap on your profile picture or initials, then select backup settings.
  • Scroll down and tap "Cancel backup of this device".
  • Confirm that you understand the consequences.

This feature is currently available for iOS and is coming soon to Android.
