Google has begun rolling out Gemini extensions for Messages, Phone, and WhatsApp following a utility update. Announced in October, these integrations extend Gemini's ability to streamline communication.

Here's What We Know

The Messaging extension works with your phone's standard messaging app to help you compose and send texts, offering suggestions such as how to greet someone or rewrite a message. However, it cannot read or summarise messages, work with media files, or respond to notifications.

The phone app makes calls easier by understanding natural language prompts. For example, users can ask to call a contact, a specific business, or even arrange a car purchase over the phone. The extension can also help find businesses and summarise reviews before making a call.

WhatsApp becomes the first third-party Gemini extension to allow users to send messages or make calls directly through the platform. Commands include writing messages or calling contacts by name or number.

These extensions are enabled by default, but you may need to restart the Gemini or Google app to make them appear. Access to them is currently limited.
