Only a day after massive layoffs at Ubisoft, Torn Banner, and Sweet Bandits, Illfonic, the studio known for Friday the 13th, also announced staff reductions. In a post on LinkedIn , co-founder and CEO Charles Brunhardt noted that the company had to recognise the impact of the current industry situation on its operations and reorganise.

Here's What We Know

Brunnhardt did not disclose the exact number of employees laid off, but former communications manager Michael Robles said that "a lot of talented people have lost their jobs". Illfonic was founded in 2007 and gained fame with Friday the 13th: The Game, which sold nearly two million copies in its first few months. However, subsequent projects such as Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and Killer Klowns From Outer Space, however, failed to achieve the same success.

These layoffs are another blow to the video game industry, which has already experienced significant cuts in 2024. In total, more than 14,000 jobs have been lost across various companies since the beginning of the year. Brunnhardt stressed the importance of support for those who have lost their jobs, urging companies to contact him for help in hiring laid-off employees.

These developments come amid a general decline in the industry caused by the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing pressure on profitability.

As a reminder, the servers of the horror game Friday the 13th The Game will be closed on 31 December.
