Tesla hires operators to remotely control Cybercab 'autonomous' taxis
Ilon Musk promises that Tesla is about to bring fully autonomous electric cars to the roads. And recently the company presented the "Cybercab" concept and announced the launch of a robotaxi service in 2026. But as it turns out, "fully autonomous" cars have one nuance. As it became known from a job vacancy on Tesla's website, the company is looking for people to remotely control its "autonomous" cars.
Here's What We Know
The job description talks about building a team of operators to control robotaxis and even humanoid robots. The advert states that the artificial intelligence to control the cars is still being refined, so there is a need for remote control.Tesla promises to provide applicants with an "ultra-modern VR kit" that will allow operators to "navigate" in robotaxis.
What about the competition?
Tesla isn't the only company to employ similar solutions. For example, Cruise (owned by General Motors) also uses remote operators to help cars that get "lost" on the roads. Similar approaches are used by Waymo (Google) and Zoox (Amazon). Moreover, as practice shows, while autonomous driving technologies are just developing, the lion's share of the work is done by low-paid employees.
