Vodafone and Three to merge in the UK
The UK has officially approved the merger of Vodafone and Three, which will create the country's largest mobile operator.
Here's What We Know
The decision was made by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), subject to several mandatory requirements.
In particular, the new operator is obliged to limit tariffs for three years and provide virtual mobile operators with access to fixed wholesale prices and contract terms so as not to affect competition.
In addition, the company will invest "billions" to build a joint 5G network in the UK over the next eight years.
The CMA believes that the merger of Vodafone and Three will help improve competition between operators in the future, even though the number of companies in the market will decrease.
The operator will also be required to publish annual reports on the progress of its network plans, and regulators, including Ofcom, will monitor compliance.
