Marvel Rivals, a new team-based PvP shooter by NetEase Games, was officially released on 6 December 2024 and has already become popular among players. The game has confirmed that people are not tired of Marvel heroes and games, but rather are ready to play them if they are given high-quality content. However, it was not without a scandal.

Here's What We Know

Although the game has just been released and does not yet have a Metacritic score, the positive response from the community is already evident: more than 440,000 players have played the game on Steam at the same time, where it has a 75% positive rating. There are also many people playing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.

However, not everyone was happy with the new product. Former Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra expressed his dissatisfaction by calling Marvel Rivals "Overwatch Marvel Rivals" in a now-deleted tweet. He claimed that the game was a copy of Blizzard's project, comparing the characters Black Widow and Widowmaker because of their similar roles as snipers.

He also compared this story to the announcement of Light of Motiram, which is very similar to Horizon, but none of the authors tried to deny that they were inspired by Overwatch.

The community was quick to respond to these accusations, pointing out that Black Widow appeared in comic books back in 1964, long before Overwatch was released. Yabarra deleted his post, but the Internet remembers everything.
