The CEOs of AMD and NVIDIA have never met before, even though they are relatives
AMD CEO Lisa Su admitted in a recent interview that she never met her distant relative, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, until later in their careers.
Here's What We Know
Su admitted that they didn't grow up together and first met at an industry event when their careers were already on the rise. In 2020, Lisa Su confirmed that they are indeed distant cousins, but their family ties remain complicated. Nvidia also confirmed the kinship but declined to comment in detail.
Lisa Su previously mentioned that she had a large family and often visited relatives in Taiwan, but they never crossed paths with Huang. Although their careers led them to lead two competing tech giants, their life paths were relatively different. Lisa Su was born in Tainan, Taiwan, and grew up in New York City, while Huang was born in Taipei and lived in various states in the United States. Su received her engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, while Huang attended the University of Oregon.
Despite their family ties, Lisa Su considers it just a "simple and interesting coincidence" that doesn't affect their professional relationship or the competition between AMD and Nvidia.
