Against the backdrop of mass strikes in Germany, Volkswagen is considering moving production of the electric minivan ID. Buzz from the Hanover plant to Poznan, Poland.

Here's What We Know

According to Hannoversche Allgemeine, demand for the VW ID. Buzz has been significantly lower than expected. Thus, only 15,000 cars were produced in the first half of 2024, although the original plan was for 130,000 cars for the whole year. Since the summer, production on both lines of the plant has been carried out in two day shifts without the need to add night shifts.

Meanwhile, in Germany, more than 100,000 workers at nine Volkswagen plants are protesting wage cuts, layoffs and plans to close three plants. Moving production of the ID. Buzz to Poland may reduce the strain on German plants, but leaves the question of the future of workers and capacity utilisation in Hannover.
