Social network Bluesky, which is rapidly gaining popularity and becoming a serious competitor to X and Threads, is planning to introduce a paid subscription.

Mockups have appeared on the GitHub platform that show what a Bluesky+ subscription might look like and what options it might offer.

Here's What We Know

If Bluesky realises its vision, the subscription will cost $8 per month (as in X). For that money, users will get the ability to upload videos in enhanced quality, flexible profile settings, the option to change the page background colour and unique avatar frames, special profile icons, built-in publication translations, publication analytics and bookmark folders.

It is possible that one of the Bluesky+ offerings will be a verification option, the mechanics of which, due to the openness of the platform, are very different from X and Threads.

The company is not yet sure if all options will be realised.

Recently, Bluesky CEO Jay Graber mentioned that the company is considering as an additional source of monetisation not only the introduction of paid subscriptions, but also the possibility of selling domain names, algorithm marketplaces and even display ads on the social network.
