Japan to transfer military technology to Mongolia
Japan and Mongolia have signed an agreement on the transfer of military equipment and technology to facilitate joint defence projects.

Japan and Mongolia have signed an agreement providing for the transfer of military equipment and technology. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan explained that the agreement establishes a legal framework for cooperation between the governments of both countries in the field of defence technology. The document will enter into force after the completion of this procedure.
Japan already has similar agreements with 16 countries, including the US, UK, India, Philippines and UAE. The document also protects classified information and prohibits arms transfers to third countries.

Japan plans to provide Mongolia with 5 billion yen ($33 million) in assistance under the OSA (Official Security Assistance) programme, including air traffic control equipment. Similar assistance will be provided to other countries: The Philippines - coastal radar stations, Indonesia and Djibouti - ships and other maritime security equipment.
In addition, in 2023, the Pentagon ordered Oshkosh Defence to produce a batch of JLTV armoured vehicles for supply to Mongolia. This will make Mongolia the first Asian user of US Joint Light Tactical Vehicle armoured vehicles.
