Black Myth: Wukong should have won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024, says Game Science CEO
The game Black Myth: Wukong won two awards at The Game Awards 2024, but its creator, CEO of Game Science, Feng Ji, was disappointed. He shared his thoughts in a post on the Chinese platform Weibo.
Here's What We Know
The Game Awards 2024 became an important moment for many projects, but not everyone returned from the event satisfied. Black Myth: Wukong, nominated for five awards, including Game of the Year, won the Best Action Game and Players' Choice categories. However, the CEO of Game Science, Feng Ji, expressed his disappointment that the project did not win the main award.
In his post on Weibo, Feng Ji noted that two years ago, he wrote a speech that he would give when Black Myth: Wukong won Game of the Year. He admitted that he felt "cheated" because he did not understand the criteria for choosing the winner in the Game of the Year category.
I came here for nothing
Ji also shared his thoughts on how his team strived to create a game that would make people feel "truth, kindness, and beauty". He emphasised that Black Myth: Wukong was created for those who do not have access to AAA games or modern platforms, and for those who face injustice in life.
Despite the awards, the CEO stressed that the disappointment was caused not only by the loss, but also by the lack of clear explanations about how the winners in the main category were chosen. Feng also noted that the chance to perform on stage was important to him, given the difficulties with organising travel to the event.
