On Thursday, 12 December, Škoda Auto launched series production of the new Kylaq model at its plant in Pune, India. Škoda said in a press release that the first deliveries of the compact crossover to customers are scheduled for January 2025. Prices for the car start from 789,000 Indian rupees (around 8,700 euros).

Here's What We Know

With the start of production of the new model, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (ŠAVWIPL) has increased the capacity of its Pune plant by 30 per cent to 255,000 vehicles per year.

The Kylaq is the third Škoda model designed and manufactured in India, after the Kushaq and Slavia. It is currently the largest non-European market for the Czech brand. It is also the first model in India to feature elements of the new Škoda Modern Solid design language.

The Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length. The car has been deliberately made shorter than 4 metres to fall in the category that is not subject to additional taxes in India. The crossover is powered by a 1.0 TSI petrol engine with 85 kW (115 hp) and a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The Kylaq gets several segment-first features, including ventilated front seats with six-way electric adjustment. Some trims include a power sunroof, which is a sought-after option in India. The interior uses eco-friendly materials. For example, the trim panels contain bamboo particles.
