Xiaomi will sell electric cars outside of China, unofficial sources said
Portal 36Kr reported citing several anonymous sources that China's Xiaomi is setting up an overseas automotive business. The company has formed a preparatory team for overseas sales and is creating positions in areas such as market research, project management and after-sales service.
Here's What We Know
Insiders told 36Kr that after forming an international team, Xiaomi will conduct small-scale car deliveries in several countries to test market response and prepare for scaling. However, a possible expansion schedule and potential markets are not mentioned.
Xiaomi has also reportedly created several positions in the autonomous driving department that are not related to China. These employees will be responsible for regulatory review and functional implementation of autonomous driving features overseas.

36Kr suggested that this expansion could affect Europe. The fact is that this summer Xiaomi presented two samples of its first electric car, the SU7 sedan, at a show in Paris. On the sidelines of the event, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun told reporters that the company wants to launch car sales in Europe by 2030. However, there is no explicit confirmation that France or any other country in Europe is part of Xiaomi's current activities on the international front.
