Ukraine is already using laser weapons - Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces
The Ukrainian Defence Forces are already using laser weapons capable of shooting down airborne targets at altitudes of over 2 km. This makes Ukraine one of the few countries with such technology.
Here's What We Know
The Ukrainian Defence Forces have begun using laser weapons to hit air targets. This was announced by Vadym Sukharevskyi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, during his speech at the European Defence Industry conference.
"We can state that today Ukraine is, if I'm not mistaken, the fifth country that can say it has a laser. Today, we can shoot down aircraft at an altitude of over 2 km with this laser," he explained.
According to him, the Ukrainian laser weapon is called Tryzub, and work is underway to scale it up and increase its power.

In addition, Sukharevsky spoke about the successful use of so-called "queen drones" that carry FPV strike drones, increasing the range of the enemy. According to him, these carriers are capable of delivering drones to a distance of more than 70 km and hitting targets in the depths. Such systems can be based on both aircraft-type drones and multicopters.
It is worth reminding that this technology was presented by Skyeton in September 2024. Their Raybird drone is capable of transporting an FPV strike drone and acting as a repeater at a distance of up to 80 km.
It should also be noted that the characteristics of the Ukrainian laser weapon Tryzub are currently unknown. However, earlier, in April 2024, it became known that the UK intends to transfer samples of the DragonFire laser air defence system to Ukraine, which has been under development since 2018.
