Stellantis has decided to release the petrol-electric Ram 1500 Ramcharger pickup truck first, while the battery-powered Ram 1500 REV has been delayed until 2026
Stellantis today announced the decision to postpone the launch of the all-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup truck from the first half of 2025 to 2026. Instead, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which is an electric vehicle with a petrol engine acting as a generator, will be the first to hit the assembly line.
Here's What We Know
In the US, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger will be open for orders in the first half of 2025. This pickup truck will be powered by a 3.6-litre V6 engine that charges a 92 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 690 miles (1,110 km). In comparison, the all-electric Ram 1500 REV promises only 500 miles (805 kilometres).
In addition, the Ramcharger is slightly more powerful than its all-battery cousin: it produces 663 hp (494 kW) versus the REV version's 654 hp (448 kW).
All variants of the Ram 1500, both conventional with an internal combustion engine and electrified, will be produced at the Stellantis plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
What is the reason for the change in Stellantis' plans?
Stellantis states in a press release that the decision to launch the Ramcharger first was due to overwhelming consumer interest, maintaining a competitive advantage in the technology, and slowing demand for battery-electric pickups.
