Chinese company Nio has unveiled the first electric car of its new Firefly brand, aimed at the European market. This compact car is positioned as a potential competitor to the BYD Dolphin and Renault 5 in the compact hatchback segment.

Here's What We Know

Sales of the Firefly will start in April 2025 in China's home market, followed by Europe. The brand has not yet named the exact dates of appearance in Europe, but according to Autocar, the first foreign market will be the UK, where, unlike the EU, Chinese electric cars are not subject to additional duties. In China, the price starts at the equivalent of £16,000 (about €19,300 or $20,100).

The Firefly electric car has short overhangs at the front and rear, and is eye-catching with its original triple headlights and taillights. The turning radius is 4.7 m, which makes it easy to manoeuvre in urban areas. In addition, the new car has a spacious front boot (volume of 92 litres) with drainage. The rear seats are foldable, resulting in the volume of the main boot reaches 1250 litres.

Technical specifications are being kept secret for now. It is also not known whether the Firefly electric cars will support parent company Nio's quick battery swap technology.
