Samsung may soon stop pre-installing many Google apps on its devices. This is due to the proposal of Google in the antitrust case initiated by the US Department of Justice.

Here's What We Know

The US Department of Justice accuses Google of having a monopoly on the internet search engine market and has proposed sweeping changes to the way Google operates. The DOJ's proposal is for Google to sell Android and Chrome, but the company has been slow to agree to these measures.

In response to the monopoly allegations, Google has proposed measures that would allow mobile device makers like Samsung more flexibility in choosing pre-installed apps.

Samsung will now be able to pre-install Google Maps and YouTube, for example, but not necessarily Google Drive and YouTube Music. Instead, the company can choose Microsoft OneDrive and Spotify. If the Justice Department takes these steps, Samsung will be able to reduce the number of pre-installed Google apps on its devices. A final ruling on the case is expected in April 2025.
