Apple raises $3 million to fight HIV/AIDS as part of Apple Pay charity event
The annual Apple Pay fundraising campaign, which took place from 29 November to 8 December, raised $3 million for the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Here's What We Know
The organisation (RED) expressed gratitude to Apple and its customers for supporting healthcare in vulnerable communities. The money raised will be used to fund vital healthcare programmes, including HIV among the most vulnerable populations.
Apple runs this campaign every year on the eve of World AIDS Day, which is celebrated on 1 December. As part of the initiative, the company donates $5 for every purchase made through Apple Pay on Apple.com, the Apple Store app or in the company's retail stores. This step encourages customers not only to support the charity, but also to make purchases through a convenient payment system.
In addition to the Apple Pay campaign, the company has long supported the Global Fund through the sale of (PRODUCT)RED products. A portion of the proceeds from each device sold in this series is used to fight epidemics in developing countries. Over the years, Apple has raised more than $250 million, which has helped launch numerous vaccination, testing and treatment programmes that save thousands of lives every year.
Despite the reduction in the number of products available in (PRODUCT)RED, the company continues to support critical health programmes that are making a significant impact in the fight against the biggest diseases of our time.
