Big plans for 11 bit: after the cancellation of Project 8, the company has started development on two new games and will announce another one soon
A few days ago Polish company The "classic" of the industry: 11 bit studios stops development of the console project Project 8 and fires some developers its ambitious multiplatform game Project 8, which entailed the dismissal of part of the team and irrecoverable losses of $11.5 million.
This is a serious blow to the 11 bit studio, but it does not despair and has already announced new plans.
Here's What We Know
Head of 11 bit studios Przemysław Marszał said in an interview with PAP Biznes that instead of the cancelled Project 8 the team started working on two new games.
One game is currently being developed by 25 people, and they plan to release it in 2027. There is even less information about the second project. Marshall mentioned that it will be bigger than the sci-fi adventure The Alters and will be released in at least four years.
We recognise that we have problems. We closed Project 8 and laid off 18 employees. The release of The Alters has been delayed for several months, and some of the publisher's projects are still unprofitable. Besides, the whole game industry is going through a severe crisis. However, we are not standing still and are in a good financial position, we have a stable cash flow and do not need additional funds.
The head of the company confirmed that Project 8 was supposed to be an ambitious action game with a third-person view, reminiscent of the Hellblade series, but with a greater emphasis on gameplay.
Interestingly, 11 bit plans to announce a brand new game in just a few months, with the release coming in "a few quarters".
As for the main sources of profit, Przemyslaw Marszal singled out Frostpunk 2, whose sales are exceeding the company's expectations, and the adventure game The Invincible, and also expressed hopes for the success of The Alters, which is expected to be released in March 2025.
For their part, Creatures of Ava and The Thaumaturge have yet to break even.
