Halide, the popular iPhone photography app, will be getting three new features in 2025. The app's developers, Lux, have announced a major update to Halide 3.0, which will include several new features.

Here's What We Know

The first new feature is the ability to quickly change the colour settings of images. Users will be able to apply professional cinematic filters with just one touch, which has become one of the most popular requirements after the launch of the proprietary Process Zero image processing system in 2024. This feature will give users the ability to create unique visual effects similar to those found in Lux's Kino app and even import their own settings.

The second important new feature is the implementation of HDR. Although the iPhone supports HDR through Apple's proprietary algorithms, Halide has so far avoided this technology due to concerns about aesthetic performance and compatibility. However, developers are now integrating HDR in a way that keeps images looking natural and high quality, rather than too bright or unnatural. This also coincides with the improvements in iOS 18, including the introduction of adaptive HDR for older formats such as JPEG.

The last major update will be a complete redesign of the Halide user interface. Halide Mark II is now five years old, and Lux has decided to update the app, improving both its design and functionality. In particular, new colour adjustment tools will become a central part of the interface.

In addition, Lux has launched an official Discord server where subscribers can access early versions of the app, discuss new features, and participate in a year-long photo contest with weekly challenges.
