The second season of the popular TV series Squid Game is finally on Netflix: what do you need to know before watching?
On 26 December 2024, the long-awaited premiere of the second season of the South Korean series Squid Game took place, which became a real hit on Netflix. Here is what you need to know before watching.
Here's What We Know
In the second season, viewers will meet Song Gi-hoon again, who, after the horrific events of the first season, decides to stop the deadly games by becoming their opponent. Gi-hoon will try to protect the new participants, but he will have to face the Frontman, one of the organisers of the competition, whose goal is to prevent him from finishing the game.
This time, the rules are changing: after each round, the participants have to vote for the continuation of the competition, which leads to a split in the group into factions. The new season will also feature new games that are familiar not only to Korean players but also to the international audience. The participants will include not only adults but also young players, which underlines the relevance of the topic of debt addiction among young people.
The Squid Game tells the story of a group of people who find themselves in a desperate situation due to financial problems. They receive an invitation to take part in a secret survival tournament with a huge prize of 45.6 billion won (approximately USD 38.5 million) at stake. Participants take part in deadly games based on popular childhood pastimes, but with dire consequences for the losers.
Over 330 million viewers watched the first season of The Squid Game, and the total viewing time has reached over 2.8 billion hours since the series was released on Netflix in autumn 2021, making it one of the most popular series in recent years.
