Here's What We Know

The route started from the highest motorable point in the country - Umling La in Ladakh at an altitude of 5,799 metres above sea level. The finishing point is Kuttanad in Kerala, which is three metres below sea level. The total altitude difference was 5,802 metres, which was a new world record for electric cars.

Overcoming the route took 14 days and covered more than 4,900 kilometres of challenging conditions. IONIQ 5 overcame icy mountain passes in the Himalayas, steep descents and the gruelling wet coastal zone of Kerala.

Hyundai's press release states that this instance of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is equipped with a 72.6 kWh battery. Although there is no other information, it is known that such a battery was installed on the 2021-2022 version of the Long Range (the updated IONIQ 5 is fitted with a larger capacity battery). Range in the WLTP cycle is 451-481 km, depending on conditions. The 217 hp engine allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.
