Development of the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is progressing at a rapid pace and its release could come sooner, says an insider
Qualcomm launched its new flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in October this year, and now it is reported that the company is already actively working on its successor.
Here's What We Know
According to a leak from a Digital Chat Station insider, development is progressing at a rapid pace and Qualcomm's new top-end chipset could be released sooner than its predecessor. According to reports, the chip could be announced around the middle of next year.
The new 8 Elite chipset will allegedly have "significantly" improved GPU performance over the first-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite and will be built using TSMC's 3nm process technology.
In addition to this, it is reported that Qualcomm may be going to raise the price of the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset due to the steep rise in application processor (AP) costs. However, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is rumoured to be expected to offer a 20% performance boost, which could justify the increase in the final cost of the chip.
If the above rumours are confirmed, devices with the new Snapdragon chip could hit the market as early as summer 2025.
