Digital Foundry experts named the games with the best graphics of 2024: Indiana Jones is out of competition!
The Digital Foundry team has joined the year-end recap and compiled its own top of games with the most beautiful and technologically advanced graphics of 2024.
Here's What We Know
Digital Foundry has chosen what they consider to be the three best games, and seven more they deemed worthy of praise, but without determining which one is the best, as all of them are of the highest technical level.
The first place Digital Foundry gave to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
The experts admitted that the game could not have been included in this list at all, as it was released at the very end of the year, but MachineGames' work was so outstanding in terms of graphics and visual effects that it was impossible not to appreciate it. What impressed the DF team the most was the implementation of path tracing technology, in which they were unable to find any flaws. This is a very complex system that most developers make mistakes with, but the Swedish team did an impeccable job while maintaining a decent level of optimisation.
Second place went to Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
DF didn't give the lead to this project because it's more of an interactive film than a game, but the level of detail, superb lighting, impressive facial animations and overall quality of execution impressed the team. Many scenes in Hellblade II are virtually indistinguishable from live-action footage, which speaks eloquently to the quality of the graphics.
To the surprise of many gamers, Star Wars Outlaws came in third place
The controversial action game from Ubisoft faced huge justified criticism, but Digital Foundry can't help but note the graphics quality of this game: it's not perfect, but it's on a high level, thanks to which all locations and room interiors look atmospheric, detailed and very realistic.
The general picture of Star Wars Outlaws is somewhat spoilt by facial animation and outdated lighting, but in general DF experts are satisfied with the technical performance of the game.
Digital Foundry experts highlighted the graphics of the following games (in random order):
- Dragon's Dogma II
- Riven
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Silent Hill 2
