Kia is recalling more than 22,000 EV9 SUVs in the US due to a manufacturing defect. It turns out that the vehicles of 2024-2025 model years may be missing bolts securing the second and third row seats. In the event of a collision, this could lead to serious consequences.

Here's What We Know

In September, Kia received a report of a 2024 Kia EV9 that was missing third-row seat bolts. It then learned of a second 2024 EV9 with a similar problem. After that, Kia checked the manufacturing quality of dozens of vehicles but found no issues. For the third time, the manufacturer received a report regarding a dealer warranty claim. This time, the problem was related to a worker error.

Kia has no information about any accidents or injuries related to this defect. However, EV9 owners should pay attention to any seat backlash or rattling noises.

The recall, numbered SC329, will begin in January 2025. Dealers will install any missing seat bolts free of charge.

One of the design features of the EV9 is the ability to rotate the second row seats 180 degrees to make it more comfortable for passengers to communicate with each other.

In March, the 2024 Kia EV9 won the 2024 World Car of the Year competition.
