Tesla is offering an OEM Model Y interior lighting kit for $220, but only in China
Tesla has released a car interior ambient lighting upgrade kit for the Model Y electric crossover. There's a catch, though: it appears to be available only in China. The cost including installation fee is 1,599 yuan, which is equivalent to $220 USD
Here's What We Know
Last year, Tesla Model Ys produced in China and destined for the local market received a customisable decorative lighting strip on the front of the car's interior. Tesla has now started selling such a system for Model Ys assembled between 22 January 2022 and 1 October 2023. That is, before the kit became standard equipment.

Tesla's original background lighting kit has a number of features compared to unofficial third-party solutions that are widely available on Chinese online retailers. It not only adds an LED strip, but also replaces the wooden insert with a grey textile insert. The lighting system syncs with the car's infotainment display and can display any colour.
The US-made Tesla Model Y does not yet have such an option.
