On 31 December 2024, a unique event took place during a battle in the Black Sea, which was captured on video and clearly demonstrates the huge prospects of unmanned systems.

Here's What We Know

Soldiers of the special unit "Group 13" of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine for the first time in the history of military operations destroyed an aerial target using a Magura V5 maritime drone.

During a naval battle near Cape Tarkhankut (territory of temporarily occupied Crimea), the operators of the uncrewed boats were able to destroy one Russian Mi-8 helicopter that was firing machine gun fire at them and caused significant damage to the second board, but it managed to land.

Ukrainian engineers were able to adapt the SeeDragon missiles for use with the Magura V5 (the drone is a unique Ukrainian development) and today the first confirmed case of successful use was presented.

The GSD also published a radio intercept of the Mi-8 pilots' conversations, which also confirms the strike from the water.
