Balatro's stardom continues, with another reputable portal naming it the best game of 2024
Balatro has become a real hit in 2024!
The Golden Joystick Awards and The Game Awards 2024 recognised it as the most successful indie hit and best mobile game at the same time, it was named Best New Release of the Year by The Indie Game Awards, and respected games journalist Jason Schreier included it in his own top of the year.
Rolling Stone, Kotaku, IGN and GameSpot are all excited about Balatro and have included it in their picks for the most successful releases of 2024, and now the editors of another popular gaming portal have joined them.
Here's What We Know
PC Gamer journalists summarised the results of the year and named card roguelike Balatro as the Best Game.
The editor-in-chief of the portal Robin Valentine realises that the choice may seem strange, but he said that Balatro deserves this title as no one else.
Balatro may be the most unassuming game we've ever given such a high honour to. At first glance, it looks more like a game that would have been pre-installed with Windows 98 than the best release of 2024. Even the gameplay doesn't look like anything special - just playing cards floating around. Where are the wizards and laser guns?
But all you have to do is touch the tip of your foot to the murky waters of Balatro for them to suddenly grab you and drag you down into their bottomless depths. When you win your first round, fumbling for possible poker combinations, you're already hooked. You'll be drawn further and further into exploring the intricate ways of deck building, and you'll find yourself behind inscrutable conversations about "Planet X".
As a reminder, sales of the card game Balatro This is what success looks like: sales of the card game Balatro have exceeded 3.5 million copies, and that was long before respected experts awarded it with such flattering reviews.
