One of the most famous custom firmwares, LineageOS, now officially supports the entire Pixel 9 series, which was launched more than three months ago.

Flashback

LineageOS is a popular custom firmware for Android devices that is open-source software. It is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and gives users more control over their smartphones or tablets.

Here's What We Know

This support is made possible by the LineageOS 22 update, which is based on Android 15 and includes all the security and functionality improvements added in the QPR1 update.

Today, LineageOS is installed on more than 1.5 million devices worldwide, which demonstrates its popularity among users. Pixel 9 owners can now install this popular custom firmware for more control over their smartphone.

LineageOS 22 brings all new features to the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold models. The main innovations include an updated music player. Visual enhancements and technical improvements have also been added, including charging limits, Pixel Tablet's extended screen mode, and other minor optimisations based on Android 14.

All Pixel 9 series smartphones with the Tensor G4 chip are already included in the list of supported LineageOS 22 devices. However, the download files are not yet available, but are expected in the coming days.

Here are the models on the list:

  • Pixel 9 - codename: okay.
  • Pixel 9 Pro - codename: caiman.
  • Pixel 9 Pro XL - codename: komodo.
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold - codename: comet.

Although Google plans to support the Pixel 9 series for another six years, LineageOS can be a great choice for those who want to maximise their smartphone's customisation. Over time, support for this firmware can keep devices running even after the end of official updates from Google.
