LineageOS 22 is now available for Pixel 9 series devices
Almost three months after its release, LineageOS - the largest and most famous third-party custom firmware - is officially available on the entire Pixel 9 series. Of course, we're talking about LineageOS 22, which is built on Android 15 and is currently on the QPR1 release, which contains all the security fixes and privacy improvements.
Here's What We Know
There are currently more than 1.5 million devices running LineageOS worldwide (and that's just the official builds), which is actually a great result for a custom firmware. On Pixel 9 devices, it will offer more control over the system and customisation flexibility than the official Google OS.
LineageOS 22 introduces several new features for the Pixel 9, including a new music player, which is a notable addition. Visually, there are a few minor changes based on the QPR1 update, along with numerous improvements such as charging limits and a pseudo-desktop mode on the Pixel tablet, as well as other minor changes that improve on Android 14.
Eventually, LineageOS may offer updates outside of official Google support, although the long-term durability of current Pixel hardware is not yet known.
