In Norway, 9 out of 10 new passenger cars in 2024 were electric cars
Norwegians bought 128,691 new passenger cars last year. This is only 1.4 per cent more than in 2023, but another fact is telling. Of all new passenger cars, 114,400 units or 89 per cent were electric cars, the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) reported.
Here's What We Know
OFV claims that Norway is closer than ever to reaching its goal of all new passenger cars to have zero emissions in 2025.
In December alone, 13,652 new passenger cars were registered, 12.1 per cent more than in the same month in 2023. The share of electric vehicles in December 2024 was 85.5 per cent compared to 73.5 per cent in the same month of the previous year.

Interestingly, those who bought a non-electric car tended to choose something environmentally friendly. 5.3 per cent of cars sold in Norway last year were hybrids, and about 2.7 per cent were plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Only 986 cars were exclusively petrol cars.
