Facepunch Studios director Alistair McFarlane has announced an important milestone for the multiplayer survival game Rust: in a recent Twitter post, he announced that the game has reached a new peak of 259,646 simultaneous players on Steam.

Here's What We Know

"Rust going strength to strength! we just beat our all-time CCU, beating covid and all other significant events. For the past several months, we've been hitting new monthly records, this was a huge one we were unsure if we'd ever beat, not unless there was another global pandemic."

Shortly after the post, SteamDB reported an even higher peak of 262,284 concurrent players - the first time Rust has reached this number since the launch of early access.

Throughout 2024, Rust has seen impressive growth: 5.5 million unique players, 40 million hours of play, and 325 million sessions.

Updates during the year included new vehicles such as bicycles and motorbikes, an updated world map with new places of interest, backpacks as new equipment, additional weapons, and various quality of life improvements.
