Microsoft's new strategy involves phasing out the release of exclusive games. In just over a year, the American company has released four games from its studios on competitors' consoles (PlayStation and Nintendo Switch): Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi RUSH and Pentiment, while Call of Duty, contrary to Sony's fears, has not become an exclusive and is still available on the Japanese console. In addition, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on PS5 this spring, and many new products from Microsoft will immediately appear on this platform.

Here's What We Know

The most zealous and loyal fans of the Xbox brand have realised the inevitability of multiplatform releases and this trend will only increase - this is the conclusion reached by analyst Serkan Toto from the agency Kantan Games and shared his thoughts in the material published on Gamesindustry.biz.

He analysed all the statements and actions of Microsoft for 2024 and has no doubt that the company will not only release new games on PlayStation, but will do it as quickly as possible, possibly at the same time as the release on PC and Xbox. Moreover, this applies even to new games of those series that have never previously been released on PlayStation, for example, Gears (Gears of War).

As the main reasons for this decision, the expert highlights not only global changes in the video game market, but also the need to compensate for the huge costs of the purchase of Activision Blizzard, which cost the corporation about $ 70 billion.

This is the year when Microsoft may decide to do it. The multi-billion dollar deal with Activision Blizzard, increased costs at all levels, the popularity of service games, the serious lag behind Sony and other factors will probably push Microsoft to release its new big hits on PlayStation 5, including such blockbusters as Gears of War: E-Day and Perfect Dark.

As a reminder, it is definitely known that Microsoft's high-profile new releases like DOOM: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 will be coming to PlayStation 5. Authoritative insiders also report about the porting of the popular racing game Forza Horizon 5 in 2025.
