Scout Motors will offer satellite communications as an option in its future vehicles that will enter the US market in 2027. This was announced as part of Scout Motors' first participation announcement at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

Here's What We Know

Satellite connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot will be available for Scout Terra pickups and Scout Traveler SUVs. All the necessary equipment will be pre-installed at the factory during vehicle assembly. Apparently, users will only need to pay for a subscription.

No word yet on the provider. It is not known whether Scout Motors will use SpaceX's low-orbit Starlink satellite system or another. Starlink currently offers a 50GB per month package in the U.S. for $50.

Scout Motors made the decision to integrate satellite communications into its vehicles after a social survey. 70% of respondents said that having such an option in the car would be important to them.

What else is Scout Motors showing at CES 2025?

The show in Las Vegas (taking place from 5-7 January) will also showcase the Community UX user interface. One of the UI features that stood out at Scout Motors' presentation a couple of months ago was the presence of real buttons. The physical controls were welcomed by reviewers against the backdrop of touchscreens dominating the industry.

In addition to buttons and a touchscreen, the Community UX will support gesture controls for certain functions.

A bit of information about the Scout brand

Scout Motors is an American car company founded in 2022 by Germany's Volkswagen Group. The latter gained the right to use the Scout brand after acquiring US manufacturer Navistar International in 2021.

The Scout name is a reference to the International Scout SUV, which was produced from 1961 to 1980.
