Samsung may soon allow Galaxy Watch users to control their smart TVs through gestures. This was revealed during the analysis of the APK code of the SmartThings application for smartwatches (version 1.3.12.9), which was conducted by Android Authority.

Here's What We Know

It contains lines of code that indicate the possibility of using gestures to control Samsung TVs via Galaxy Watch.

This feature, which has not yet been officially introduced, is called Pointer Mode. Users will be able to perform various actions using gestures, such as shaking to activate the mode or rotating the bezel to scroll through content on the TV.

Additionally, users can use a fist to return to the previous screen or a double fist to return to the home screen. Gadget owners will be able to select objects on the TV screen using a pinch gesture.

The virtual remote function already exists in the SmartThings app for controlling Samsung TVs, but it uses on-screen buttons instead of gestures. At the same time, Galaxy Watch users have the ability to control their watches using gestures through the Universal Gestures feature, which was introduced in the One UI 5 update for the watch. However, these features don't work with Samsung TVs, and according to the code review, all existing gestures will need to be disabled to activate the new mode.

It is not yet known whether Pointer Mode will become available to all users, but this feature could be another step towards tighter integration into the Samsung device ecosystem.
