A Valve employee has denied rumours about Steam Deck 2 development based on the recently announced AMD Ryzen Z2 processor.

Here's What We Know

Following the announcement of AMD's new hybrid processors for portable gaming systems, rumours began circulating on the internet about the possible development of a new version of the Steam Deck handheld console. However, a representative of developer Valve, Pierre-Loup Griffais, said on the Bluesky platform that the Steam Deck 2 console with Ryzen Z2 processor does not exist and its development is not planned. He clarified that the slide accompanying the APU announcement was only intended to demonstrate the processor's capabilities for portable gaming systems, and did not imply the announcement of a specific device.

There is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck. Guessing the slide was meant to say the series is meant for products like that, not announcing anything specific.

Regardless, the new Ryzen Z2 processors will be used in other portable systems coming to market in the first quarter of 2025. While the Steam Deck 2 release is not expected, the original model with an OLED screen and some improvements is still the preferred choice for many users.
