Samsung produces the largest number of mobile devices of any manufacturer, despite the fact that it has significantly reduced its annual production over the past few years. The company also supports most of its devices with regular software updates.

Here's What We Know

More than 130 Galaxy smartphones and tablets receive new updates on a monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual basis, depending on their price and age. However, all devices stop receiving updates after a few years. Starting this month, Samsung will stop releasing software updates for three models: Galaxy A02s, Galaxy A12 and W21 5G.

The W21 5G is the Chinese variant of the Galaxy Fold 2, for which updates ended in other regions in October 2024. All three models were released in late 2020 or early 2021 and received four years of support.

As the flagship, the W21 5G has received three major Android updates, while the budget Galaxy A02s and A12 have received two each. Both models are running Android 12 with One UI 4.1.

This decision allows Samsung to focus on supporting newer devices while providing them with better features and security. If you use one of these models, you should consider upgrading to a modern device that will have longer software support.

On 22 January, Samsung Electronics will hold an Unpacked presentation in San Jose at 20:00 Ukrainian time, where it will present the new Galaxy S25 series of smartphones.
