Since the start of Russia's full-scale aggression in February 2022, Ukraine has received more than $126 billion in military aid from the countries of the Ramstein Contact Group. This was announced on 8 January by Deputy Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh.

Here's What We Know

She stressed that the coalition, created at the initiative of the United States, plays a key role in strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities and building a deterrent force to prevent future Russian aggression.

"To date, the United States, as well as our allies and partners, have collectively provided more than $126 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022," the Pentagon spokesperson said.

The next meeting of the Contact Group in the Ramstein format will take place on 9 January. According to Sabrina Singh, the meeting will focus on the priority needs of the Ukrainian army, including air defence systems, artillery ammunition, armoured vehicles, and measures to strengthen Ukraine's defence industry.

Meanwhile, the White House is preparing to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine. According to Voice of America correspondent Carla Babb, the package will be worth $500 million. This will be the last aid package of the Joe Biden administration.

However, despite the White House's promises to use the entire budget of the PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) programme before the end of Biden's term, about $3.8 billion will remain unspent. The Pentagon noted that these funds will be at the disposal of the administration of the next US President Donald Trump after his inauguration on 20 January.
