Continental has unveiled its "Emotional Cockpit" car interior concept at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Its main feature is an E Ink Prism display covering the entire width of the front panel.

Here's What We Know

E Ink displays have spread thanks to e-books, but Continental believes it can be used to enhance the personalisation of cars. The concept shown at CES features a screen 4.2 feet (1.3 metres) long and 1.6 inches (4cm) high. It replaces the traditional panel trim with a full-width display. Users can thus choose from an assortment of designs that reflect their personal tastes and preferences.

As with most e-books, the display is limited to showing black and grey. Continental claims that this results in a "striking minimalist aesthetic in an otherwise colourful world". However, colour E Ink displays are possible in the future.

The advantages of E Ink technology include extremely low power consumption during the short switching time between images. This means that even when the car is parked or switched off, the content on the screen will remain visible. Continental also noted that it "reflects light like real paper," meaning the screen doesn't need to be backlit like conventional displays.

Continental didn't limit itself to just E Ink displays in the cabin, however. At CES 2025, the company also unveiled its "Window Projection" system, which can project images onto the rear side windows of a car. Any kind of information can be displayed, from the battery charging status of an electric car to the logos of your favourite sports team.
