John Deere's new robotic lawnmower has a 21.4 kWh battery and can operate autonomously for up to 10 hours
At CES 2025, John Deere unveiled an electric robotic lawn mower that looks a bit like a combat robot from a Hollywood film, but is actually designed for peaceful purposes. The lawn mower is equipped with a 21.4 kWh battery that provides up to 10 hours of operation without recharging. Incidentally, this is only slightly less than the 24 kWh battery capacity of the first-generation Nissan Leaf.
Here's What We Know
The robot uses four pairs of stereo cameras that provide a 360-degree view. It can operate autonomously, and the electric drive has a number of advantages over its petrol counterparts. Chief among them is its quiet operation, which means you can start work early in the morning without disturbing residents.
While unmanned vehicles face challenges in fully transitioning to autonomy, such robots have every chance of quickly becoming commonplace. According to John Deere, 84% of landscape business owners complain about a shortage of skilled workers, and autonomous vehicles could solve this problem.
Unfortunately, John Deere did not disclose the cost and timeframe for mass production of the robotic electric lawn mower.
