Along with the purchase of an actual tank battalion, the Swedish military will also upgrade 66 Stridsvagn 122 units, which are a slightly modified version of the Leopard 2A5, to the level of new tanks.
The total value of the deals is $1.54 billion, which will bring the number of tanks in the Swedish Armed Forces to 154 in a single modification. The supply and modernisation of the equipment will last from 2028 to 2031.

The Swedish government has approved a $450 million overhaul of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. The overhaul is expected to be completed by 2030. These vehicles are currently in need of refurbishment due to significant wear and tear on their components and accumulated technical faults.
"The deteriorating security situation means that we are now undertaking the largest defence re-equipment since the 1950s, and this investment in tanks and combat vehicles is an important part of that," said Defence Minister Paul Johnson.
