The commercial performance of Star Wars Outlaws was disappointing for Ubisoft: according to VGC, the game took only 47th place in European sales, behind the older Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Despite the positive pre-launch hype, backed by impressive trailers and the participation of Massive Entertainment, critics took the game with a lukewarm reception.

Here's What We Know

Such a low rating led to significant problems for Ubisoft. After the game's release, the company's stock prices fell, and physical sales in the UK were 55% lower than Jedi: Survivor. JP Morgan analyst Daniel Curwen lowered his sales forecasts for the game by 2 million copies, citing the fact that it failed to meet expectations.

Since then, Ubisoft has released several updates to address the main issues, including a November revision of stealth mechanics and improvements to combat and cover systems. The Wild Card expansion pack was also released, but it was criticised for its weak script, short duration, and disappointing final boss.

Amid this struggle, Ubisoft is consulting with advisors to maximise the value of its intellectual property, and CEO Yves Guillemot is reportedly considering a buyout by Tencent.
