Samsung has recently unveiled the new Galaxy A16 5G smartphone in the US, which is the first in the A1x series to lose the classic 3.5mm headphone port.

Here's What We Know

This is an important change for the series, which previously always supported a standard audio port that allowed you to connect wired headphones without the need for adapters.

If you replace an old Galaxy A15 or other A1x model with the new Galaxy A16 5G, you won't be able to connect wired headphones with a 3.5 mm jack without a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter.

Since 2018, Samsung has been gradually phasing out the 3.5mm port in its flagship models, starting with the W2018 and W2019, which were exclusives for China. And later, with the Galaxy Note 10 (2019), it continued this trend in other high-end smartphones.

The lack of a 3.5mm headphone port has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, wireless headphones offer wireless convenience and come with additional features, such as active noise cancellation or voice control, that wired models don't have. On the other hand, some users may find it difficult to give up their usual headphones and will have to use adapters or switch to wireless devices.

The Galaxy A16 5G features a 6.17-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits of brightness. The 13-megapixel front camera is integrated into the notch. The Exynos 1330 is responsible for performance (unlike the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 in the Nigerian version). The smartphone is based on Android 14 and will receive 6 OS updates and 6 years of security.
