Samsung is building an advanced semiconductor chip fab in Taylor, Texas, USA. To do so, the company has invested billions of dollars and recently received $4.74 billion in incentives from the US government.

Here's What We Know

According to a new report, Samsung Foundry plans to start producing advanced semiconductor chips at its Taylor fab in 2026. The company plans to start manufacturing 2-nm and 3nm chips in 2026, deliver the necessary equipment at the beginning of the year, and start production by the end of the year.

In comparison, Samsun's main competitor TSMC has already started production of 4nm chips at its fab in Arizona. By the end of the year, the company is expected to be ready to produce 2-nm and 3nm chips.

Samsung Foundry will use Gate All Around (GAA) technology to produce 2-nm and 3nm chips, while TSMC will use EUV technology for 3nm chips and GAA for 2-nm.

Although Samsung will start production later than TSMC, the company plans to stand out with a turnkey service specifically designed for AI chips. This service will reduce chip development and manufacturing time by 20% for companies that do not have their own production facilities.

Samsung recently unveiled its Vision 2030 plan, which aims to become a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing by 2030. However, the company has faced some difficulties, including technological and strategic challenges, as well as political situations.

Analysts believe that Samsung Foundry will have a better chance of success if it is separated from Samsung Electronics. However, the chairman of Samsung Electronics recently said that the company has no plans to spin off its chipmaking unit.
